Will Atkins-17-Speech
Speech-Zac Byrd
Now, drug companies are putting less and less money towards researching new antibiotics. Instead drug companies are now focusing more on chronic illnesses because of money. It’s a money issue. People use antibiotics for about 10 days and then they are done with them until the next time they get sick. But people with chronic illnesses have to have medicine every day for the rest of their life, making these medicines more profitable. As the NY times points out, the FDA had a “scandal” several years ago over a drug that caused liver damage. Because of this scandal the FDA is more cautious about approving other antibiotics. Combined with the lack of revenue flowing in for antibiotics, the crackdown on drugs has been rough with the FDA only approving two antibiotics in the past decade.

Assignment 6- Haley Longworth
1. Too much homework!
2. People don't care about their health.
3. It's freezing cold outside!
It's the time of the year when everyone gets to freeze their butt off. Don't get me wrong, I love the way winter looks when the snow falls and blankets the ground, and the sight of Christmas lights around town. What I don't like as much is the freezing cold temperature and biting wind that accompanies the season. Some people might think they have it bad, having to run to their car, but it's the worst when I have to walk to the bus stop. Every morning I wake up and get ready to go to school, but always dread having to walk outside. As soon as I open the front door, the wind blows in, but there's no turning back. Usually I wear about three layers, but no matter what I do I can never stay warm enough. I walk a fourth of a mile just to stand and wait for the unpredictable timing of the bus. When I'm early, the bus is late. When I'm late, the bus is early. There is no telling when it will come. I get to stand on the corner of the street, wind blowing on my face, in the freezing (literally!!) cold that creeps through the openings of my multiple jackets. That is why I can't stand being cold.

Hooray for Hollywood
I am completely conflicted about this movie.
Maybe it's because I was a huge and obsessive fan of the book, but I was not completely satisfied with this portrayal of Ender's Game. While I understand that hundreds of pages had to be condensed down into about two hours of film time, there was so much detail lacking that completely changed the direction of the movie. For one thing, the complete focus on Ender and lack of development for other important characters took away vital details that made the whole plot different. How would we know that Ender was terrified of being like Peter if we don't understand how Peter bullied him? How could we recognize Bean's brilliance and Enders reliance on him if it's never acknowledge- save but one line. With that being said, the movie itself is absolutely stunning. The few battle scenes were cleverly played out and the cinematography was beautiful. While I am slightly miffed that important details were left out, if you've never read the book, Ender's Game is a solid sci-fi movie.

In my opinion electronic devices are completely taking over the lives of most people around the world. WE use the internet for everything. People can't go 5 minutes without checking their phone. Some people can't even go 5 seconds without it. The lives of young people today have become completely dominated to our phones and other electronic devices. Kids no longer want to go outside and play with their friends. They would rather sit inside and play their video games or watch TV. I am guilty of this myself and have been trying to regulate the amount of time I spend at my laptop and behind the TV(I've had little success). If children didn't spend so much time on their electronic devices then maybe we wouldn't have such an obesity epidemic in America. Electronics have come to completely control our lives and if we make steps to change this we could solve a lot of problems.

Zombies have attacked. My first plan of action would be to find out if zombies were on every country or place in the world. If they weren't I would go as fast as possible to the airport and use all of my life's savings to take the quickest flight to the place that has no zombies. If this course of action is not possible I would probably try to gather a group of people and go to a Lowe's and make a big Zombie proof fort, probably made out of a bunch of metal and armed with machine guns. Then I would go home and take a TV my laptop and my X box with me to the fort and then I would waste all my money for a huge food stash that could hopefully sustain me through the zombie apocalypse. Hopefully I would not become zombie chow before I got back to the fort with all my supplies.
