Boo-Jack Humphries

Boo

What scares me?

A beautify simple phrase can be used to sum up what terrifies me, “I’m afraid I don’t know.”

To me the act of not knowing is scary, but the act of not knowing what to be scared of, that’s terrifying. If you know your enemy you can understand him/her/it, but if you don’t know whom your fighting, then you’re doomed to lose. It’s the same way with fear; if you know what you are afraid of you can come to terms with your fears, or at least avoid them. If you don’t know what to fear, then how can you resist fearing? How can you come to terms with a terror that has no face, no subject or soul you can rationalize and attack? You see I know what I fear; I fear spiders, the dark, and death. But what if I am missing something? Something I should fear, but I fail to because I am ignorant. What if I find myself faced with the task deciding if I should fear that something and the only answer I can come up with is “ I’m afraid I don’t know.”
