Alexander Reese: Turkey Day

Thanksgiving, what a terrible holiday. For starters, the historical basis for it is hilariously and wildly inaccurate. The pilgrims were most certainly not having a party with the Native Americans. That aside, I hate turkey. It's bland and dry (or maybe it's just my mother's cooking, but don't tell her). In addition to that, you have to eat turkey for the next week because of the wonders of American excess. It doesn't particularly serve the purpose of making people more thankful. Much like memorial day, people are only thankful when the day actually comes, so social media such as instagram and twitter can be flooded with the half hearted attempts of people to make it seem as though whatever they're #ThankfulFor isn't something they'll totally just take for granted by the next day. In addition to the actual holiday, we have its brother Black Friday. Black Friday is truly the epitome of American consumerism and greed. Seriously, trampling an old man to get a cheap flatscreen television is not okay.
