Hooray for Hollywood

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/enders-game/

I am completely conflicted about this movie.
Maybe it's because I was a huge and obsessive fan of the book, but I was not completely satisfied with this portrayal of Ender's Game. While I understand that hundreds of pages had to be condensed down into about two hours of film time, there was so much detail lacking that completely changed the direction of the movie. For one thing, the complete focus on Ender and lack of development for other important characters took away vital details that made the whole plot different. How would we know that Ender was terrified of being like Peter if we don't understand how Peter bullied him? How could we recognize Bean's brilliance and Enders reliance on him if it's never acknowledge- save but one line. With that being said, the movie itself is absolutely stunning. The few battle scenes were cleverly played out and the cinematography was beautiful. While I am slightly miffed that important details were left out, if you've never read the book, Ender's Game is a solid sci-fi movie.
